Platterpush & Codeks (with special guest vocalist/MC P.Smurf)
Platterpush and Codeks have been DJ’ing since the late 90’s, recording, performing and touring with numerous live outfits. Turntablism is an important aspect of their style which is evident in both their live sets and releases. Platterpush and Codeks were the founding members and co-producers of Down Under Beats crew (Dialectrix, Joenew, Immune, 13th Son), a hip hop collective that toured extensively and released two albums in the mid 2000’s. Being ‘Unearthed’ by Triple J in 2004 raised the bands profile and saw them becoming one of the trailblazers of the emerging Australian Hip Hop genre.
The Producer/Dj duo have gone on to produce for many successful artists such as Thundamentals, Lotek & P.Smurf.
In 2020 Platterpush and Codeks released ‘Planet of the Misfits’, the highly anticipated debut album from the legendary production duo Platterpush and Codeks. Featuring a stellar line-up of local and international vocalists, due for arrival on 27 November 2020, through the countries freshest new Hip Hop label Scratches Records.
As renowned beat-makers, veteran DJ’s & brothers, Platterpush and Codeks have worked tirelessly over the years producing high quality music for numerous successful artists. Now, after the previous release of two acclaimed singles ‘The Connection’ & ‘Hands Down’, the dream of a full production album of their own, has finally become a reality. Featuring a star-studded guest list of their favourite rappers from around the world, set to knock your trajectory back on course.
After years of planning and late night studio sessions, and over 16 years since their trailblazing Blue Mountains Hip Hop crew ‘Down Under Beats’ were unearthed on Triple J, the boys beastly new LP ‘Planet of The Misfits’ was born.
The nine track vinyl/digital release features some serious international heavy hitters such as the legendary Percee P from the South Bronx NYC, Soul Position emcee Blueprint (Ohio), Reks (Boston) and Res One from Bristol UK. Local emcees are also well represented with some of the country’s finest and most heralded wordsmiths on board including: Muph, Dialectrix, P.Smurf and the young guns Talakai, Hammy and Wise Guy who have been making some major waves in the scene of late.
All up Planet of the Misfits features 18 different artists, providing a diverse but surprisingly cohesive selection of lyrical styles and perspectives. What starts off on a jazzy, down tempo tip, quickly progresses into big bass, heavy, hard hitters, such as the latest single ‘First Shot’; a fast paced Dancehall banger featuring Lotek (UK) and Ragga Army (The Strides) out November 12.
The lyricism and musical craftsmanship displayed on the record are unparalleled, with technical flow, word-play, and meaningful content providing a cornerstone to the album. This, coupled with the modern day Boom Bap styling and highly impressive turtablism of two Hip Hop pioneers, make Planet of the Misfits one of the most unique and diverse albums to come out of Australia in years.
